Ma’ayan spiritual arts answers the call for Jewish ritual that honors the Earth, uplifts the Divine Feminine and celebrates the un-gendered Divine Mystery.
McKenzie Wren (Ma’ayan Yehudit) first experienced the power of embodied community ritual when she was 16 and attended a Dances of Universal Peace in Atlanta. Since that long-ago moment, she has been exploring, participating and leading Earth-based rituals and ceremonies across the US. In 1999 she began incorporating elements drawn from her then-identified pagan practices with Judaism, beginning with her own wedding and subsequent brit milah of her two sons. Over the years she immersed more deeply into the mystical realms of Judaism, seeking connection with the Divine Feminine and grounding in Earth-based ritual within her adopted tradition.
Guided by the work of Rabbi Jill Hammer and the Kohenet movement, Rabbi Shefa Gold, the practices of her Reconstructing Judaism home shul of Congregation Bet Haverim and many other inspirational teachers and friends, McKenzie found that Judaism contained all that she could ever hope for. In 2019, McKenzie and sister-priestess, Shana Cohen founded a women’s circle for sacred ritual and ceremony. In 2022, McKenzie and Shana offered their first public, multi gender-inclusive ceremony and McKenzie knew that it was time to serve again.
Over the years McKenzie has worked as a lay midwife, an abortion-care health worker, a health educator with Planned Parenthood, an herbalist and aromatherapist in her independent women’s health practice, a variety entertainer offering Tarot and storytelling, a public health expert working in community health and, since 2015, an independent facilitator and consultant supporting non-profits and businesses in creating more inclusive and equitable cultures. Known by her community as a skilled facilitator and keeper of energetic containers, McKenzie helps people have the conversations they need to have in spaces that help people be their best selves.
McKenzie’s eclectic background has brought her to this moment where she combines all of her explorations into powerful and meaningful opportunities to experience art, ritual and connection.
